These vibrant and refreshing fruit kabobs feature star-shaped watermelon and blueberries that mirror the American flag. A healthy, no-cook dessert or appetizer perfect for summer gatherings or patriotic celebrations.
Ingredients
1 medium seedless watermelon
1-2 pints fresh blueberries
24-30 wooden skewers (6 inches long)
Instructions
Place the watermelon on a stable cutting board and use a large chef’s knife to cut the fruit in half.
Flip the watermelon so the flat, cut side is resting against the board.
Use a knife to slice away the green and white rind by following the curve of the fruit.
Cut the remaining pink melon flesh into uniform slices approximately 3/4 inch thick.
Press a small star-shaped cookie cutter into the center of each watermelon slice to create fruit stars.
Alternately thread watermelon stars and blueberries onto wooden skewers in a red, white, and blue pattern for a patriotic design.
Notes
Select a heavy watermelon with a yellow field spot for the best flavor.
Use large, firm blueberries for skewering.
For a presentation touch, wrap the ends of skewers with colorful cellophane or flag-themed paper.
Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours before serving to keep the fruit fresh.
