Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
4-5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon paprika
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste
1/2 cup beef broth or water
1/4 cup milk (optional)
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
3. Add ground beef and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
4. Drain excess grease if needed.
5. Add chopped onion and minced garlic and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
6. Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
7. Arrange thinly sliced potatoes evenly over the beef layer.
8. Season potatoes with Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
9. Sprinkle cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese evenly over the potatoes.
10. Pour beef broth around the edges of the casserole dish.
11. Drizzle milk over the top if using.
12. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
13. Remove foil and continue baking for 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden brown.
14. Allow casserole to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
15. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
Notes
Use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes for best results.
Freshly grated cheese melts better than pre-shredded cheese.
