Description
A comforting, hearty, and easy one-pan meal that combines savory browned ground beef, thinly sliced tender potatoes, and a rich blend of melted cheddar and parmesan cheeses. This classic American dish uses simple pantry staples to create a golden, flavorful casserole that is perfect for busy weeknights and satisfying family dinners.
Ingredients
1 lb Ground Beef (85/15 lean)
4-5 medium Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1.5 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
0.5 cup parmesan cheese, grated
0.5 cup beef broth
1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
Paprika, optional garnish
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Brown the ground beef thoroughly while breaking it into small crumbles.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until translucent.
Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly across the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
Arrange the thinly sliced potatoes in a uniform layer directly over the beef base.
Season the potatoes with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
Pour the beef broth evenly over the layers to ensure moisture.
Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
Remove foil, sprinkle with both cheeses, and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and potatoes are fork-tender.
Notes
Ensure potatoes are sliced thin, about 1/8 inch, to guarantee they cook through within the baking time. Letting the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes after pulling it from the oven helps the sauce thicken for easier serving.
