Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion (yellow or white), thinly sliced
1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 cup mushrooms (cremini or white button), sliced (optional)
1 teaspoon garlic powder (or 2 fresh garlic cloves)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (alcohol-free option recommended)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
4 provolone cheese slices (optional: white American or cheese sauce alternative)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium heat
Cook ground beef, breaking into small pieces, until browned (8-10 minutes)
Add sliced onions and cook until translucent (5 minutes)
Stir in bell peppers and mushrooms (if using), sauté until tender (3-4 minutes)
Mix in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; cook 2 minutes
Split hoagie rolls and warm in oven for 2-3 minutes
Place cheese slices in each roll and return to oven until melted
Fill rolls with beef mixture and serve immediately
Notes
Use a non-reactive skillet for best results
Provolone melts more evenly than shredded cheese
Ensure Worcestershire sauce is alcohol-free
Leftovers keep refrigerated for 3-4 days
