Description
This chocolate chip cookies recipe makes soft and chewy homemade cookies packed with semi sweet chocolate chips. A classic easy cookie recipe from scratch that is perfect for beginner bakers and everyday dessert cravings.
Ingredients
2 and 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter softened
1 cup light brown sugar packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs room temperature
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 package semi sweet chocolate chips (12 ounces or 2 cups)
Instructions
1. In a large mixing bowl whisk together the flour baking soda and salt. Set aside.
2. In the bowl of a stand mixer or a large bowl using a handheld mixer cream the softened butter light brown sugar and granulated sugar together for 1 to 2 minutes until well combined.
3. Mix in the eggs and vanilla extract one at a time until fully incorporated scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
4. Slowly mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
5. Mix in the chocolate chips on low speed until evenly distributed in the dough.
6. Cover the cookie dough tightly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
7. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
8. Use a 1.5 tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheets leaving space between each cookie.
9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the tops are set.
10. Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Chilling the dough is important for thick chewy cookies.
Do not overmix once the flour is added.
Slightly underbake for softer centers.
Cookie dough can be frozen for later baking.
